Frequently Asked Questions

Booking

Can you recommend places to go and things to see?

Feel free to pop in the office during your stay, we have lots of information and local recommendations. We’d also recommend looking at https://www.indieyork.co.uk/directory for all the best local independent special places in the City or https://visityork.org/business-directory/category/things-to-do which has a comprehensive list of everything happening in the City including local events and Festivals.

Can I bring my dog on holiday?

Most of our properties are pet friendly . A small portfolio of our properties are completely pet free, see individual cottage information for details.

We don’t accept cats and do ask guests not to leave dogs unattended in properties as this often leads to distress for the dogs, noise for the neighbours and damage to the property. Please get in touch if you need assistance or want to discuss this further.

What if I have a problem when on holiday with you?

Our team of locals in the York office are on hand from 10am – 5pm  to help with any issues you have including maintenance. We also have an out of hours service available 7 days a week if you have an emergency.

Please do give us a call – particularly at weekends/evenings as emails may not get picked up after office hours.

What if I need to cancel my booking?

Please see our full terms and conditions for our cancellation policy. We will always endeavour to re-let your cancelled booking to provide a refund, or move the dates of your booking with enough prior notice. We recommend you have adequate holiday insurance to cover you against cancellation.

Is there a hairdryer in the property?

Yes, all our properties have a least one hairdryer.

Do I need to bring bedding and towels?

These are provided in all our properties and will be made up ready for your arrival.

Does my property have parking?

Some of our properties have private parking, some have a street parking permit but some do not offer parking options- please check the listing prior to booking. You can also search for properties with private parking by selecting ‘Parking’ under ‘Facilities’ here.

We have a few properties with an EV charger and Garage as well but you should see this listed in the property details.

York is a small City and all our properties are a short walk from York Train Station.

What time can we get into our holiday home?

Check-in is from 3.00pm on your day of arrival and check-out is 10.00am. Our office team will contact you on the day if the property is ready any earlier.

If you are hoping to have a late check out please ask us a few days in advance so we have the chance to coordinate with  our housekeepers if possible.

Can I leave my bags before check in or after departure?

We will do all we can to help with this as we know its an issue when travelling by train. Some properties make this easy and other are a little more tricky but please do get in touch and we can offer some options.

There are two bag drop points in the City Centre called Yorbag and Micklegate News who can help if we are unable to store bags for you.

Are any of your properties accessible to those with mobility issues?

As most of our properties are historic buildings we do not currently have a fully wheelchair accessible property. However, we are very happy to give detailed descriptions or extra photographs of properties to help you decide if your access needs could be met.

Our larger properties have a walk through tour available on the property pages which will hopefully make it easier to understand the layout and allow you to see stairs etc.

Please do give us a call if there is anything you are not sure about as we are very happy to help.

Do your properties have food basics in the kitchen?

All our properties come with tea, coffee, sugar and milk sachets as a basic starter kit.

Our larger houses mostly have a coffee machine and starter pack of the relevant coffee – please check with us if this isn’t clear.

Our larger houses generally have other supplies but these cannot be guaranteed so we recommend bringing what you need.

Our guest handbooks will tell you where the closest grocery stores are and you are also welcome to have food delivered to the house from local supermarkets – please let us know if you need any advice on this.

Does the house have a coffee machine?

We know how important a morning coffee can be to some of our guests.

Each property is different but all have a cafetiere as standard.

Please check with us about the particular property and we will confirm if it has a pod machine or something different.

We can also recommend all the best places for a brilliant coffee shop near your property so do get in touch!

How close is the house to York Minster?

York is a small City and our properties are all within a stone throw of the City Walls. The whole circumference of the City walls is only 2.7 miles with York Minster sitting within the walls.

You are never far away and can see the Minster tower from all over the City.

How far will we be from The Shambles?

The Shambles street is fairly central in York and very close to our properties in St Savioursgate, Castlegate and the Minster Precinct.
