The King’s visit to York – 9th November 2022

It was fantastic to welcome King Charles III to York this week, as a planned visit to tour the region but mainly to unveil the statue of the former Queen, now installed next to the main West entrance to the Minster.

After the ceremony to welcome the King to the City through Micklegate Bar, the brief planned walk-about to meet well wishers went well.  A sunny start was followed by rain for the unveiling ceremony, but everyone was delighted at the occasion.

This well-timed visit brings welcome attention to York as we prepare for the Christmas markets, which are set to be larger and more impressive than before.  Preparations underway in Parliament Street as the 70 wooden chalets are constructed to line the street, and a huge Winter Hutte, offering Swiss with a Twist dining experience from one of Yorkshire’s best-known chefs, the Michelin-starred Andrew Pern, and a fully-licensed bar area downstairs serving seasonal favourites such as gluhwein and spiced cider.

We still have some accommodation available during November and early December.
