If you’re after a local pub that’s open all day, head to The Judge’s Lodging, which has a lovely beer garden to relax with your dog in during the summertime. If you fancy a day out in the countryside near York, head over to Kirkham Abbey, stretch your legs on a long dog walk, then settle down by an open fireplace at The Stone Trough Inn for some classic, British pub grub.

On the other hand, if it’s a stunning parkland walk you’re after, try the 3.5-mile circular walk in the grounds of Beningbrough Hall, just a short drive from York city centre.
