This property was built in 1750 as a Manse to the former Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, now Nos. 60 and 62 Aldwark, attached at the rear.
It is of three storeys, three bays but only one-room deep comprising one room either side of a central entrance hall and staircase. The front retains the original doorway with a semi-circular fanlight rising into an open pediment. At the eaves is a timber block cornice. The interior retains many of the original features.. The staircase has open strings and turned balusters..It is a beautiful example of Georgian design.
The house is set back in a formal front garden enclosed by railings which is a rarity in inner York.
The accommodation has a formal living room and kitchen diner on the ground floor, with a small garden room and WC opening out to an enclosed private yard, with relaxed garden seating.. On the first floor is the master bedroom with a double bed, and a smaller double room with the main family bathroom (shower over a bath). The top floor has a large twin room, and another large double room which has an en-suite bathroom. We have fitted out the basement room as a snug with another TV and games console. The house has been painstakingly restored and dressed with great attention to detail.
All in all and great family house for a visit to York, or a stay with a group of friends and be based in the heart of the city.
